Viva La Dirt League LOVE a warm up!

We all know the Viva La Dirt League boys are great actors... Makes it tough for us to know how hard they're working, but sometimes you can tell...

Can't make life too easy for them just because they're superstars... @vivaladirt

The Viva La Dirt League team came to us to transform their bodies... We thought a 12 week challenge would do the trick. We've worked with them and built their program, sorted out their food, and worked on mobility drills to keep them healthy as we've pushed the weights up up up. They're starting to see awesome results now, and time flies as we reach the last third of the challenge. They're training hard with us once a week, and following our training programme for their other sessions during the week.

A huge shout out to all of their fans who have supported us and them, and followed along with their own 12 week program that we released for them so they could change their lives too! When The Active Lifestyle gets hold of you - you'll never be the same. (Our online training programs are written bespoke for you and mean that you can get the same, awesome results as the boys, but without coming to the The Active Lifestyle studio!)

We can't wait to show you them when they've finished! (And I'm sure they can't either, as if you've seen anything they've done, they've been practising their 'I'm a Model' poses.) All their results will be well deserved, to say they are working hard is an understatement!

If you have any questions, or want some help to change your life, give us a shout. Here are some success stories from our previous clients!

Congratulations Alisdair - 170kg deadlift

Nothing this guy does with weights surprises me now - training hard for a couple of months, we took his deadlift to 165kgs, then he travelled for work and unfortunately was away for a month. He came back, came back to the studio, and smashed this awesome 170kg deadlift like it's nothin' (almost).

An awesome goal smashed as he nears a 2x bodyweight deadlift!

This man possesses an exuberance for training hard, lifting weights, and smashing goals, so well done, *tips hat* and keep up the good work!

Super inspirational stuff, show's what can be acheived, and he's training 2x or 3x times a week!

Today saw the second Yoga With Kittens event at The Active Lifestyle personal training studio in Mt Eden, Auckland. Thank you to 9 Lives Orphanage, Alisha and all her team for helping make the day run smoothly! We had a host of gorgeous, beautiful kittens who were all less than 8 weeks old! They grew into the event quickly and were very quickly running around, playing and enjoying the cuddles and attention! Most importantly, THANK YOU for attending, as we couldn't do it without you and this exceptional charity really needs the help and money to survive! Feel Better - Everyday(1/3)

If you aren't feeling your usual energetic, happy self, these three simple tips and changes to your lifestyle will go a long way to helping you improve your overall happiness levels, outlook, and positivity. Your outlook, and well-being, is one of the most precious things you have.

If you put effort into the three things we are going to tell you about, you will not only feel reinvigorated, your outlook on life will improve as well. Your day to day mental being will improve. A lot of what we do involves helping people to relax and unclutter their minds, through training, mental focus, and habit forming. Try it today and we guarantee that you'll soon start to feel better about life.

Welcome to the first of our three part series on making yourself feel totally awesome.

Colouring can be used as a great form of meditation

Colouring can be used as a great form of meditation

The first thing many people do is try to identify why they feel so bad. Is it due to a lack of sleep, higher than normal stress levels, or are other people getting you down? Many people just sweep these feelings under the carpet and resolutely decide that they will get more sleep. Unfortunately, that rarely happens, because life gets in the way and the exhausted, run down feelings fail to get better. At The Active Lifestyle we are all too familiar with this constant life battle, and recommend our clients to try making a few small changes to get them back to their best, quickly.

Simply sleeping more (or, trying to sleep more) often doesn’t solve the issue. I’m not arguing that sleeping more doesn’t help, but there are three important things that you can do that will give you improvements fast.

What you need to do, firstly, is set out some time aside in your day for yourself. This will allow you to actually carry out the tips that we are suggesting and both see and feel the improvements happening.

Meditation

Meditation is an age old practice and its benefits are enjoyed by millions of people all around the world. Many people have heard how good meditation is for them, but due to not feeling ‘immediate’ success with it, they give up and stop trying. It’s time to ignore then need for instant gratification and spend 10 minutes a day just trying to meditate.

To start meditating, you need to sit somewhere comfortable, and just focus on your breathing and how your body feels. Many people complain of the natural chatter and busyness in their minds as they think about things they need to do or things that are in their head. Ignore this – simply focus on your breathing, feel and enjoy each breath as you breathe in, and out, in, and out. Perhaps try counting these, as it will give you something to focus on. Mindfulness and Meditation is the process of being in and enjoying the moment, ignoring everything around you, and become attuned to how your body feels at that particular moment in time. Everyone we’ve ever talked to that has tried and stuck to meditation has seen results from it – they feel better, their mind feels clearer, and they feel less stressed and more energetic as a result.

Meditation outside, using nature!

Meditation outside, using nature!

We understand, you are mad busy, and the last thing you can think about doing is stopping for a minute and doing nothing, but put your mind to it and treat it as a learning process. The benefits are there, you just have to put some effort into actualising them. Day 1 might suck, but Day 10 will be much better – like anything else you are trying to learn, time is a massive helper. Set yourself 10 minutes a day where you teach yourself how to meditate, and relax your mind. Your body will thank you for it. When I first started to meditate, I used a phone app called Headspace which is a guided 10 minute meditation. It really taught me a lot about how to get along with mindfulness! It's free, try it below!

One Young Man's Journey back from Open Heart Surgery

Today, I feature an article of inspiration from someone else. Nothing to do with me, The Active Lifestyle, or my training or history. This article was sent to me by a good friend of mine who I have known for a long time and hold dear to my heart. I don't know the man in question, but it's clear from what my friend has told me and what she has written that he is deserving of all the successes in his personal battles and life issues that he has overcome.

This should serve as an inspiration to us all. Those who struggle, those who have struggled, and those who continue to struggle. Have a read and share in his success.

https://flowfinder.london/blog/2016/05/11/how-i-used-outdoor-gyms-rehabilitate-after-open-heart-surgery/

One of my supreme life passions is the health, fitness, and the well-being of others. Forget the stupid crash diets, weight loss shakes, or gimmicky tools like the vibration plates and other infomercial tat. For some people, at some times, they have their place and their use. Fine.

But if you have real problems, actual life threatening illnesses or issues, then the ONLY solution is actual hard work, training and the determination to better yourself every day, as shown by Guy in the article above. The only solution to his recovery after open heart surgery was getting up, working through the pain, and getting shit done - in a smart, controlled, progressive way. There really is no substitute for hard work. We have helped many people after their surgeries and injuries, some on a more short term basis, some more long term with conditions such as fibromyalgia and other debilitating illnesses. And the absolute most rewarding thing is seeing their improvement, and their smiles.

One thing that has been shown time and time again is that you need to have the personal drive and determination to really summon reserves of strength you never you knew you had. And more often than not you come out of it a better, healthier person. Well done Guy, I hope to meet you one day and I hope you are very proud of your story, just as I am very proud of mine.

Go and do something good for yourself today.
